March 19 that Micron and SK Hynix, two major DRAM memory manufacturers, officially announced the new SOCAMM memory module today. Micron said that this type of memory bar will be used in Nvidia’s GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra super chip and is expected to be used as replaceable memory for Grace CPU.

SOCAMM stands for Small Outline Compression Attached Memory Module , which means a more compact CAMM compression attached memory module. The current SOCAMM is based on LPDDR5X DRAM particles .
Similar to the previous LPCAMM2, SOCAMM also has a single-sided four-pad design and three fixing screw holes. However, unlike LPCAMM2, SOCAMM has no protruding trapezoidal structure on the top , which reduces the overall height and is more suitable for server installation and liquid cooling.

The SOCAMM has an overall size of 90mm×14mm and uses a 128-bit bit width ; the product displayed by Micron is based on four 16-core stacked 16Gb DRAMs, with a total capacity of 128GB and supports 8533 MT/s.
Its size is only about 1/3 of the industry standard DDR5 RDIMM, and with the high-speed LPDDR5X and larger bit width, SOCAMM can achieve 2.5 times the bandwidth of the same capacity and consumes only 1/3 of the power of traditional solutions.
